Prevention Education Services

The Hartman Child and Family Scholars Award

The Hartman Child and Family Scholars Program identifies and honors scholars and practitioners who are making significant contributions to the development of preventive and treatment interventions for children, adolescents, and their families. This program seeks to facilitate cooperation among honored scholars and practitioners in the area chosen for study, to foster the interdisciplinary study of that issue, to facilitate the design of promising interdisciplinary projects, to improve the effectiveness of interventions related to that issue, and to increase understanding of the issue in professional and policy making groups. Issues covered by the series have been:

  • The Treatment and Education of Youth and Young Adults with Asperger's Syndrome: Promoting Individual and Family Wellness

  • The Prevention and  Treatment of Interpersonal Violence within the African American Community

  • The Prevention of Depression within the Latino Community

DMHAS Prevention Training Collaborative

The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services training collaborative is a collaboration of the following agencies: The Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut, The Connecticut Institute for Cultural Literacy and Wellness, The Consultation Center, Connecticut Assets Network, The Governor's Prevention Partnership, The Northeast Center for the Application of Prevention Technology, and Operation Respect CT, Inc.

DMHAS provides training to individuals within the state of Connecticut for guidance and prevention.  Click here for calendar of dates and courses to be offered at Child & Family Agency as well as registration information.

Scholars in Residence

This program provides consultation and education services through Child and Family Agency from nationally noted agency affiliated scholars from across the United States and Canada. Included in this service are the "brown bag" luncheon speaker series, the provision of college credit and CEU courses with Eastern Connecticut State University, and program consultation assistance.

Issues in Children's and Families' Lives: An Annual Book Series

To disseminate the knowledge that results from its prevention/education activities to an international professional audience, Child and Family Agency has developed a book series entitled Issues in Children's and Families' Lives. Springer Publishing is the publisher of this respected series.
