EveryChild: A Social
History of Caring
About the Book
EveryChild: A Social History of Caring
t ells the history of four New England children’s agencies, established
in 1809, 1859, 1906, and 1954 which became Child & Family Agency of
Southeastern Connecticut. With this book, Gullotta provides
readers with a window on the social forces underlying the creation of
orphanages, settlement houses, childcare centers, and children’s mental
health services in the United States. It is also the story of early
American city life and the everyday people who, by their concern for
others, gave rise to children’s services across the country. Readers
are bound to meet ordinary people who made extraordinary accomplishments
through acts of kindness and compassion in this book. In 2009, the
commitment of caring for children-at-risk continues today as Child &
Family celebrates 200 years of social service.
